Others believe it started as Parentalia, the “festival of the dead”. It is nevertheless, more often associated with the Celtic festival referred to as Samhain, a Gaelic occurrence that honors the end of summertime.

Of course the name “Halloween” is more widely connected with the Scottish version of “All-Hallows-Eve”, or, the night prior to All-Hallows-Day or All Saints day. It started in 1556, and through the generations All-Hallows-Eve evolved into Halloween. Halloween is October 31st, and is observed globally, though not every cultures celebrate on this date. In addition there are countless activities that have become customs of Halloween. Trick-or-treating has become the most preferred. Kids nationwide dress up and go house to house in their neighborhoods collecting candy and goodies. There are Halloween functions, prank playing, games which include bobbing for apples, and attending haunted houses & graveyards.

Favorite foods at Halloween are candy or caramel apples, candy corn, popcorn, apple cider, and baked pumpkin seeds. Several other cultures have traditional foods they prepare for instance Ireland’s barmbrack that is a fruit bread.

Halloween symbolizes the season of the harvest and the conclusion of summer. Fall or Autumn in the northern hemisphere is when the weather turns cool and cultures harvest their crops in preparation of winter. The History Of Wonder Woman

February 16th, 2012

Wonder Woman is a super-hero dating back to the 1940′s when she made her first appearance in All Star Comics volume #8. Since then Wonder Woman has appeared almost completely with DC Comics. The persona is based on, and considered to be a princess of the Amazon women whom as a result of her travels comes to spend most of her time on Earth with the mankind. Her home is an island referred to as Themyscira(prior to now Paradise Island) termed after the Greek home of the legendary Amazon women.

The character is a heroine and has a lot of super-human talents that appear to change in accordance with the writer or situation Wonder Woman finds herself in. Most notably she has super human strength, speed, intellectual and mental abilities. On top of that she has demonstrated the skills to speak with animals, perform telepathy, blow wind gusts at outstanding speeds, and occasionally fly.

Wonder Woman has indestructible bracelets(which in many story lines can’t be removed), and the Lasso of Truth, which if lassoed by, captives are magically forced to be truthful. The Lasso is usually said to be indestructible and can also be lengthened at an endless length. Wonder Woman also has a tiara that possesses super qualities, and she can throw the tiara with a boomerang-like effect.

Collectively with Batman and Superman, Wonder Woman accounts for DC Comic’s so called “Trinity” which is generally saying they are the most powerful and significant figures in the DC Comic Universe.

Apart from being heroic & superhuman, Wonder Woman is incredibly beautiful. The objective behind these qualities appeared to be her makers attempt to suggest that women can easily posses every one of these attributes at the same time, thus to help liberate the women of that time from becoming chained in or pigeon-holed by males of their period.

Through the years, Wonder Woman has retained a significant level of popularity considering that she is a female in an otherwise man infested world, from both the arena of comic figures and the customers who buy them. As a result she has been a bit of a trailblazer in the business that has since added characters such as Super Girl, Wonder Girl, Cat Woman, and Marvels long list of female characters such as Jean Grey/Phoenix, Storm, Rogue, Mystique, etc.

In recent months there was a TV show pilot on NBC that has been cancelled though it may resurface on an alternate network in the near future. There are also rumors that the motion picture idea has been thrown around which would seem to match the recent increase of super hero movies lately.

Sweet Bold Harajuku Girl Costumes

January 30th, 2012

Harajuku style has evolved since in was first begun in the era following the Second World War in Harajuku, Japan. Made popular by Gwen Stefani with music videos and her world tour back in 2004, the Harajuku girl costume is one that anyone can make their own, given time and a bit of imagination.

There are various styles of dress that are typical of the area surrounding Harajuku, Japan. This major shopping district is a fashion lover dream come true. Here you can find a host of fashion designers that have become famous around the world. The basic form of Harajuku style is essentially a mash up of fashion to create a unique look that is yours alone.

Some of the most popular styles in Harajuku costume are those of the Gothic Lolita. This costume normally is very dark in color, and looks very Victorian. Many gothic lolita costumes include frilly skirts and blouses, as well as jackets and stockings all in black. They are normally worn with knee-high boots that lace up, as well as a black hat, and with makeup that creates an illusion of being like a porcelain doll. The Sweet Lolita look is also popular, but instead of dark colors, its focus is in creating a look that is innocent and child like. These costumes sometimes look like they have stepped out of a fairy tale or a nursery rhyme.

The Punk look may be popular, but it is not for its attraction to the philosophy or anti-establishment mentality. Here, both boys and girls wear the punk style, complete with dark colors, plaids, zippers, chains and even safety pins. Similarly, some teens are attracted to the Ganguro style which emulates the typical fashion style of an American teenager. Here, they bleach their hair platinum blonde and wear false finger nails and eyelashes.

Those who are big fans of manga, anime or even a band, a movie or a game sometimes dress up as their favorite fictional character or person. This style of Harajuku, called Cosplay is very popular.

No matter which Harajuku style you choose, there are some basics to consider. Layering is first and foremost. For example, you might wear a tank top with a blouse and then a jacket or vest or both. Rather than wearing one skirt, wear another with it in a contrasting color or pattern. Add leg warmers, socks and even leggings to add more visual confusion.

Accessorizing is an important part of the Harajuku style. Remember to embellish your costume with fun and flashing hair clips, hand bags, toys, buttons, earrings, belts and jewellery. This style is especially popular with those who use the Decora style of Harajuku. You can also have fun with hair color and fun styles like pigtails and corkscrew curls. Whatever you do, let your Harajuku girl costume be a reflection of you and your own style.

Mardi Gras Costumes: Questions To Ask Before Renting Yours

January 29th, 2012

Nothing makes a party like Mardi Gras costumes. Even if you aren’t planning to be in the Big Easy for the event, there are events all over the country that celebrate this occasion every year. Of course, nothing quite compares to getting down in the mix of parades and street level celebration that occurs in New Orleans, and there are few better ways to party than being decked out in dress that acknowledges the culture and tradition behind the fun. If you’re planning a big party or just want something that sparkles and shines, here are some questions to ask before you lay down your money.

Can I get some accessories?

Some shops selling and renting Mardi Gras costumes stop short of offering everything you need to bedazzle yourself before the big night. Make sure you ask before assuming that a shop will carry necklaces, boas, or whatever else you might think would be appropriate for the event. If they do offer accessories, they may be able to offer you some hints as to the most popular ones to go with the costume you’re considering. This can take some of the guesswork out of collecting your apparel and ensure that you don’t look (overly) ridiculous. Of course, looking somewhat ridiculous is part of the fun.

Can I get creative?

Shops have different viewpoints on how creative you can get when putting together your Mardi Gras costumes. If you’re the type of person who just wants to rent something off the rack and forget about it, this won’t be of any concern. Many customers, though, like to spice things up a bit more than that. Plus, if you’re heading down to Bourbon Street, you don’t want to be one of fifty people wearing the exact same thing. By accessorizing and having a little bit of fun while putting together your ensemble, you can be assured that you’ll have a unique look.

Do I need to reserve far in advance?

This is an important question to ask and one of the primary reasons why you shouldn’t wait until the last minute to go shopping for Mardi Gras costumes. This isn’t like shopping for a dress to wear to your birthday dinner. This is an event thousands of people will be participating in, all of them looking for something to wear. Sure, not everyone goes to the extent of finding something elaborate and whimsical, but then again, many do. You don’t want to show up the weekend before the parade and find that all of the good outfits are gone.

Glam Up Your Personal Checks with Vintage Pin-Up Girls

December 25th, 2011

There is nothing quite as glamorous as the 1940′s pin-up girls of old Hollywood. If you love retro-inspired images and want to glamorize your personal checks, then you should consider buying checks that contain gorgeous illustrations of the fabled pin-up girls. Not only are they beautiful images, but they are also memorable.

WWII might have been going on in the 1940s, but Hollywood was going strong. During that time, the pin-up girls were icons and not just sex symbols. They adorned magazines, calendars, and posters. These women were striking, enchanting, and sensational. With their faultless hair and makeup, incredible clothing, and dazzling smiles, they were loved by both men and women.

Being a movie star during that time did not always mean that the woman was also going to be a pin-up girl. Actually, although the star might be beautiful, it took a little something extra for a woman to be a pin-up girl and to be desired. She also needed to have a glamorous air about her as well as something that distinguished her from other women. Images of pin-up girls were mass produced and had wide appeal and therefore there also needed to be something accessible about her as well.

One of the earliest pin-up girls was Betty Grable. You could find her posters “pinned up” in soldiers’ lockers during the War. Another popular pin-up girl was the Gibson girl, who was actually an illustration. Other fashionable pin-up girls of the 1940s consisted of Jane Russell, Carmen Miranda, Lana Turner, Veronica Lake, Rita Hayworth, and Ava Gardner. In the 1950s, Betty Page, became one of the most popular pin-up girls of all time. Today, merchandise containing her image can still be bought, even though many of her modern fans were not even alive during her glory days.

Even though pin-up girls still exist today, an argument exists that they no longer contain the allure and style of the women of the past. Although posters can be obtained of most of the popular female movie and televisions stars and supermodels, the sexy sirens of the past are gone.

If you adore the 1940s and 1950s, then the pin-up girls checks and their classic feel might be a great idea for you and your bank checks. The checks come in 4 rotating images so each charming lady will be different from the one before her. Not just good looking are these checks, but they can also be creative ways to showcase your personality.

If you get your checks online from a safe site you can save as much as 50% off the price that you might have spent at your bank. The Internet is a good place to purchase bank checks at any rate because you have a wide selection to pick from. You can plan on getting your checks in around 5 days. Keep in mind that you need to have your routing number and checking account number handy when you place your order.

Before you purchase pin up checks, visit PinUpChecks.net to get coupon codes and to save 50% off your next order of pin up girl checks.

Vintage Clothing Style

September 20th, 2011

Vintage clothing style provides quality and originality. Vintage clothing also has many unique and beautiful designs. Clothing experts put retro or vintage clothing (either term can mean basically the same, but talk about comparable fashion style) into a category of clothes that has been popular more than fifteen years ago. Clothes have seen some rather unique styles through each decade. It is rather common to see certain people working to get vintage or retro dress back in style.

Since the vintage clothing style usually can be found at almost garage sale prices, buying these garments is a good way to show your own style. Adding to good the quality vintage designer wear, you should be able to wear some type of vintage clothing or accessory to create your very own style. One thing to keep in mind though. is that vintage clothing is sized in a different way than current trends, so measuring tends to be important.

One of the ways that make vintage clothing style so favored is that you often can buy at a thrift sale price. High quality vintage clothing should look as good as new and last almost forever if handled the right way. Often, however, caring for vintage clothing can be challenging at times. The delicates often need dry cleaning or hand washing which can use much of your time.

Vintage clothing style sales can be found at flea markets or garage sales at which it is becoming more popular to find these clothes. Television and movie stars have made vintage clothing more popular to the entire nation. The one drawback, I would like to point out, is that vintage clothing that has been worn is not always found in the best condition.

Another place that is popular to find vintage clothing styles is online auction sites. In the bigger cities, there are shops that specialize in retro dress and vintage clothing. Popular items are the 1950s black cocktail dresses, 1960 designer suits, slinky outfits from the 1970s, and who can forget the extravagant 1980s party gowns.

Vintage clothing and accessories are importantly becoming an intricate part of today’s styles. Lingerie sets and accessories are becoming increasingly popular in vintage clothing items. Along with clothing, vintage is sought after for sturdiness and superior quality. This is also a great way to recycle if you an advocate of “being green”. Over all, vintage clothing style is regarded highly for the savings, quality, and beauty.

1980s Music

September 11th, 2011

The Greatest Musical Era Ever

What was the best musical decade ever. Was it the 60′s, with it’s teddy boys, mods, swinging sound tracks or bubble gum pop? Was it the 70′s with it’s funk, soul and disco? Was it the 1980s music with it’s electro, theatrics, soft rock, rap and dance? Or was it the 90′s, with it’s grunge, polished pop, jungle, house & techno?

I am leaving out the 00′s for now as the jury’s still out and whether any new musical genres of any importance came about. The oo’s have now become the age of commercially terrible music. You only have to look at how very little records you need to sell, or rather have downloaded to make it to the apex of the charts.

What about the 1930′s with its jazz and blues movements? We’ll leave them out for the moment and concentrate on our commercial intentions.

The decade that usually gets the most airplay these days is the 1980s music. Probably due to the generation x and baby boomers now having matured and needing to relive their teens again. But also in part thanks to the huge range of music and film from this area that had the sound tracks of our lives. Music SEO marketing exec’s know this and keep releasing compilations and pulling retired band members out of the closet to perform large reunion tours.

The 80′s is my favorite decade for 1980s music. The bands were bigger. They didn’t come from talent shows, because they had talent. They weren’t known for being on a television show and only having one song because they could not truly sign or perform as an artist. They were famous because they could sing, dance, write good pop songs or at the very least look good.

The 80′s was as famous due to the outfits and dress clothes as the music. The two went together. The New Romantics swept in the start of the 80′s. Britain had come out of punk and hard rock in the latter 70′s and moved into a dressy up age. Boys wore make up galore with extremely showy outfits. Hair went long, fluffy flannel shirts and thigh high boots went on, and that was just the men.

By the end of the 80′s the dress sense extremities died down after getting too stupid for too long, but at least we had that golden time period were everyone performed brilliantly in being stupid. Not like today’s world were everybody is so real and series, oh but yep talking about sex in the club all day. Yup right. That’s why we have got the nostalgia of the 80′s and all of the great 1980s music. It gets so much airtime because today’s music is rubbish.

I was hoping you enjoyed this music debate. Make efforts to leave some marketing comments on my info blog.

70s Outfit

September 3rd, 2011

Groovy Halloween Costumes From The 70s Outfit Era

Recent years have brought about a new found love of the 70s outfit. For some, the retro hippie look is a reminder of good times and freedom. Others see it as an era of outrageous fashion and hair. Still more find humor in the style. The 1970s bold colors and unique shapes pave the way for many options when it comes to 70s Halloween costumes. No matter what style you prefer, you can find the perfect fit for your 70s personality!

While most of us think of the free loving, bell-bottomed, tie-dyed t-shirt wearing hippie as the icon of the seventies, the truth is that there are more ways to go retro with your 70s outfit. This is a day to have a good time by imitating a lifestyle that has long past. Be careful though, this is just one night, don?t go staging a sit-in or begin refusing to bathe; this is still only Halloween we’re talking about.

British music was popular during the 1970s as well. The genre became just as famous in the United States as it was across the pond. Consider Brit themed attire, complete with Sergeant Peppers-style jacket, either purchased or handmade. If you play guitar, why not practice a few Beatles riffs and bring your instrument along to really live the part.

Maybe hippy outfits and Beatles impersonations are not your thing; you could try being chic? just in a retro way. You could be dressed up to look like one of Scooby Doos new friends. Think about it, with the go-go boots, the mini-skirt, and a polyester scarf tied around the neck, you could create a 70s outfit to remember.

The reality is that there are many options to choose from when defining your 70s Halloween costumes. Strapped for ideas? you can always mimic the style of famous, or infamous, people of the era. No doubt about it, if go-go boots and afros just don?t do it for you, there is the option of choosing 70s Halloween costumes that are more abstract rather than direct replicas.

The other thing to keep in mind is that you dont have to use those obvious references, like the hippy, when coming up with your 70s outfit idea. Retro doesnt mean that you cant use a more obscure aspect of the decade when designing your costume. You could be a character from Star Wars for example. Watching popular old movies can help give you some idea of which direction to take.

Acting the part will add realistic life to your look. Find out what words were commonly used based on which style you have chosen. If you are really adventurous, try mastering a British accent to go along with the British musician look. You may not make the girls scream, but they will definitely laugh.

I say go all out with your 70s outfit. This is a decade that is rich with color as well as history. So do what you can to add depth and drama to your retro look. Whether you are impersonating a specific celebrity of the time or come up with our own collage based on a myriad of images, make it interesting and fun. With a little extra thought, plus some research, you can come up with a 70s Halloween costumes for not only you but your friends also. Edited by Hetsil Protage

Car Hop – Step Into It!

August 28th, 2011

With Halloween creeping up on most of us, possibly you are commencing to wonder about a cool costume for the all essential merrymaking. You don’t want to look like everybody else, so suss out these wonderful costume options for Halloween 2011. These are the latest costumes to hit the costume store shelves so that you can be confident you won’t be togged up in what everyone else has on. Having said this, all the options beneath adhere to a consistent theme, the Car hop outfit or rather the serving type costume. So let’s step into it.

A bit of detail on the Car hop costume theme

Carhop plus the serving type outfits are pretty varied to be honest. When I say varied, it’s because they take in all forms of cultures and times.

As an illustration, the Car hop costume is really inspired by the women and fellas that used to step on the running boards of vehicles in the 1940′s and 50′s to take a food order. These were the days of the drive in diners when people used to eat in their car and had it delivered by a attractive looking waitress in a costume. A few even started sporting roller skates and wearing revealing outfits. To some level they were to become more of a reason to visit the diners than the meals that were served.

Other popular editions of this uniform are the renaissance and medieval serving wench costumes. They are a mixture of “Ye Olde Worlde” buxom wench look with a a small number of pirate like rudiments thrown in for good measure. The low cut, peasant top is a classical component of this look.

Another in style serving type look is the Oktoberfest costume. It is a good option to go for since it can be used twice in a month! You will find so many variants of this, from the quite real to the outrageously flirty and sexy.

The Oktoberfest outfit is based on the basic feminine dress from the alpine and southern German regions of Europe, known as the dirndl. This was really a peasant style dress that covered most of the body. It was made from common material and was quite heavy duty in order that it didn’t wear out or tear when the wearer was hard at work.

It evolved into a bit of a national icon for these regions and was custom-made to be worn by servers in bars, taverns, ale houses and beer gardens. It goes without saying, the look needed to be refined to be a little more titillating. Consequently the hemline went up and the neckline went down. When you take a look at a number of the more eye popping versions on hand, these lines almost meet in the middle these days!

As you may have guessed, these are largely womens costumes.

Many fancy dress parties specify a theme for ease. Common ones include famous eras – 50s retro, hippy 70s fancy dress, or yuppy era 80s fancy dress are all popular, along with Disney, Halloween, the Oscars or favorite films. Guests with a crafty side may create their Flashdance - Sweatshirt Dress Adult Costumeown outfits from individual sources and others prefer to pay a little more and hire. If budget is a factor, then certainly a little homemade craft and creativity can go far! However you may be very surprised at how cheap a fancy dress outfit can be purchased for on the internet. The choice is huge and of course selection can be made from the comfort of your armchair.

As a general guide, 80s fancy dress is very popular, along with famous films from the era. With a decade so packed with iconic films and music, there’s plenty to choose from and outfits are very easy to find. It can be a good theme to pick if you’ve been invited to a ‘general’ fancy dress party, as many of the styles from that era can be easily portrayed with a few well chosen accessories.

For general inspiration, 80s fancy dress is an easy winner, especially if combined with famous TV series or films from the era. The decade was packed with fresh music and culture, so there’s masses of inspiration to choose from when creating an outfit. Also a great option for an ‘anything goes’ fancy dress party, as you can easily pull together your look by visiting thrift and charity shops, high street stores and party suppliers for wigs, accessories, neon make-up and vintage clothing. Many attics too will be treasure troves of original wear! Or come in character from the era – girls can pull off the 80s heroine with minimal accessories (Baby from Dirty Dancing is identifiable with blue jean shorts, curly hair and a watermelon!) On the other hand there were many characters from the era that can be purchased at great prices from online fancy dress shops such as the A-Team’s Mr T.

For 70s fancy dress parties, again online fancy dress and party shops are good sources for budget outfits. Combine flares, cheap plastic beads, wigs, psychedelic prints and maybe even some items salvaged from attics, parents and car boot sales for an excellent fancy dress outfit that doesn’t cost the earth. Platform shoes are also a great addition – you can buy plastic paint spray to transform them into a classic 70s colour palette – try spraying them purple or orange and decorating with daisies and peace motifs for a retro feel.

The internet truly is a great source of inspiration and material for fancy dress costumes and there are also plenty of readymade outfits to buy including medieval wenches, soldiers, dragons, bees, Egyptian dancers, soldiers, nurses – the list is endless. The prices here can be very good but keep an eye on sizing, particularly for items being sold from international sellers as the sizing can vary and items may be non-refundable.

Alternatively fancy dress hire shops are a great source of lavish, complex and artfully constructed fancy dress outfits and these are perfect if you want the ease of not having to create your own, or to make a real impact at your party with something unique and special. Just bear in mind though that prices can vary and will only be for a short amount of time – you may be obliged to return the outfit the next day or incur a penalty charge and additionally if you damage the outfit in any way, you will be charged to have it repaired or dry-cleaned. For this reason, online purchase may be a better option.

Finally don’t forget your theme if you’re planning to be the party hostess! Your fancy dress should extend across the event – from food and music, to decorations and games. Look on it as the perfect excuse to re-live your childhood. No one can resist cheese and pineapple hedgehogs or cocktail sausages!

Whether you’re preparing for a stag and hen or a children’s birthday party Fancy Dress Ball offer great prices on the best fancy dress outfits.

This type of music was born in night clubs as music lovers thirsted for up tempo songs that will keep them dancing all night long. By the 1980s, they were already popular and had started to evolve to songs closer to what we hear today. In the early 1990s, dance music had commanded an exceptionally large following internationally. This kind of music had been able to penetrate social and ethnic borders hence uniting people through the power of dance.

The music is mainly composed of the usual musical instruments such as: drums, keyboard, guitar, sequencers and synthesizers. Dance music on various occasions incorporates other genres of music that are not primarily meant for dancing and makes them danceable. By the 1990s, this type of music had already become a favorite in many night clubs and almost all rave scenes. It is important to note that not all type s of music that you can dance to is dance music. This is because the other types of music are needed for people to dance in clubs too (same as house music) but the difference is in the arrangements of the instruments. This type of music is considered a genre in its own right.

Journalists, and fans alike, have described this type of music as one that is constantly evolving. At present, the music has so many genres with different designs and sub designs. This type of music originally rarely had vocals and in the event it did have them, they covered a very small percentage of a song. However, with its evolution, nowadays vocals are normally present all through out the songs. One aspect of dance music, however, that has managed to be rigid is the instrumentals. The music usually uses live instruments or synthetic instruments and in several cases, incorporating the two to create a good feeling. The tempo of the instruments plus the style in which they are used will help you to identify a specific sub genre.

The most common genres which have developed from dance music are: House, techno, break beat, electro, funk, hip hop, garage, drum & bass and trance. Every one of these genres have evolved in subsequent sub genres and other different designs altogether. This evolution of this type of music has made it even more popular because it has been able to penetrate almost all markets worldwide. At the present moment, many people have used their native languages in the music hence making it more appealing to their own people.

In conclusion, dance music is here to stay. With its future looking so promising, it is with no doubt that it will evolve even more into other genres and sub genres. Apart from sounding different as a result of the incorporation of other styles & genres, this guarantees its existence. .

If you are researching the market for prime quality house music, you have come to the right place. Visit uk.ihouseu.com at this instant to get a hold of the dance music that best fits your needs at cost-effective rates.

Which Party Is The One For You?

May 28th, 2011

When you are invited to a fancy dress party there is always the headache of what costume to choose. With many of the decades now making a comeback, what better way to re-live the old times than choosing an 80s fancy dress costume or a 70s fancy dress costume.

80s Groupie Adult CostumeThere are many high street shops that will provide you with a costume, but what if they do not have the choice or the size that you require. It is much easier to log onto the computer and order a costume on line, where there are hundreds of different ideas to choose from. It also allows you to mix and match different accessories and different eras. You can see what sizes are available and which style of outfit is going to suit you the best and make you stand out from the rest of the crowd.

When choosing an 80s fancy dress there are a lot of decisions that have to be made, for instance what type of look are you after? Is it the classic bright neon colours of orange, pink and green mesh top and leggings to give the punk look, or the “let’s get physical” Olivia Newton-John look of a cropped baggy t-shirt over a brightly coloured leotard and neon green tights? Or do you remember being more of the party girl with the black leather glove and the short mini puffy shirts, or copy the Madonna wild child look of ribbons and short denim jackets. Mixing up the styles and creating the image you want is all that the 80s were about, so choosing an 80s fancy dress should be amazing fun.

To compliment the 80s look there were many accessories that just had to be worn, from sweat bands to wigs. To re-create the 80s look wearing a bubble perm wig is a great accessory, or maybe you were more the rock chic look than the blonde bombshell. Wearing those all important neon coloured legwarmers were the perfect complement to any outfit, along with the fishnet tights and the long fishnet gloves. To top the outfit off there was always the grid spectacles and the luscious eyelashes.

80s fancy dress for the men is just as thought provoking, so choosing to dressing up as Freddie Mercury or Mario brothers was just one style that not many were going to follow. With the new romantics and the experimenting with eye liner, most men went for the Adam Ant look, or the moody suit look. Baggy rapper trousers and red or gold braces were popular along with boiler suits to make you look like Top Gun or Ghostbusters. With the suit jacket sleeves rolled up and the skinny ties everyone thought they were the cool dudes.Flashdance - Sweatshirt Dress Adult Costume

But why stop there and what about the 70′s. 70s fancy dress fashion is funky and loud, sexy and colourful. Whether you are a tight fitting Dancing Queen from Abba, or a floral hippie with a floppy hat and flower power, 70′s fancy dress for the ladies is fun and flared. Trousers that flare and swish at the bottom to those killer platform heels. If you’re a groovy baby, a stripy go-go dancer or a disco diva, 70′s fancy dress is eye catching colourful and crazy. The Accessories for the 70′s are just as much fun, with big blue curly wigs and bouffant hair to the tinsel metallic wigs that will make you shine, large stoned rings and satin bands around the head and waist all yell the 70′s. Big funky coloured glasses and bling necklaces are there to dazzle you. Ladies sequined disco hats and pink power pimp hats, there are accessories galore to choose from.

For the gentlemen 70s fancy dress is all about big hair, big collars and big style. From funky colourful suits to skin tight disco dancers, men in the 70′s were there to be seen. Shiny satin orange shirts to flared funky trousers and not forgetting the Saturday Night Fever look of the black shirt and the tight white suit. Walk into any party with that on and you will be the talk of the night.

If it is the 80s fancy dress or the 70s fancy dress style that you choose, there is no doubt that the right costume is waiting for you on-line. Having fun mixing and matching the fashions of the decade will be an experience you will want to do again and again. Fancy dress parties are fantastic fun and you will be sure to be noticed.

Visit Fancy Dress Ball if your looking for fancy dress outfits that are sure to impress.

Retro Apron

February 9th, 2011

Retro Apron

If you are looking for a gift idea for someone special, perhaps that person would like a retro apron.  When we think of aprons, we often think of mothers and grandmothers in the kitchen, but men can often benefit from having an apron as well.

Aprons are a reflection of the past, and it warms the heart remembering a love-filled kitchen when all of the distractions that we have now did not interfere with a home-cooked meal.

Some children today do not even know what an apron is. Aprons were originally used for protecting the dresses that were commonly worn daily as so few dresses were owned. It was much easier to wash an apron than a dress as it used much less material.

Aprons were used for many things in the kitchen other than protecting your dress. Often it was used to take something hot out of the oven. When slaving over a hot stove, it was used to wipe the perspiration of your brow. When the stove needed more kindling, the apron served as a way to carry it to the kitchen.

Aprons also served as carrying eggs in from the chicken coop, carrying vegetables in from the garden, or even bringing in apples that had fallen from the trees in the fall.

Retro aprons are very hot items right now, and are a favorite gift for that special cook in your life, or makes an excellent bridal shower gift, or that special mother/daughter duo that loves to spend time together in the kitchen.

This whimsical set of mother and daughter half aprons are made of a thin cotton. They both have a pocket in front and tie in the back.

This full-size handmade apron is a very cute, retro looking apron. It is made out of a fun, flowered and polkadot cotton fabric.. It easily slips over the head and has two front pockets. It has hand-embroidered “Mom” on the right pocket.

Or, the Grandma apron is just as fun. It has hand-embroidered “Grandma” on the right pocket.

Retro Sunglasses

Retro Sunglasses

Women Vintage Retro Goggles Sunglasses
When it comes to sunglasses, is retro the way to go?  You are probably seeing a lot of different designs of shades these days, are they new?  Truthfully, there are really no new designs, just redesigns of a formerly popular style.  In the fashion world, retro designs are everywhere–and sunglasses are no exception.

One design that has poked its head back into the fashion world is well known all over.  Onassis glasses, or the Jackie-O design sunglasses were popularized by the former First Lady Kennedy.  After becoming Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, she flaunted this oversized style of sunglasses all over the globe.  The style was so closely associated with her, that it has shared her name since the late seventies.

After fading from the public eye, the Onassis glasses lay dormant for about thirty years.  However, poised for a comeback, these sunglasses have begun making waves on red carpets and runways all over.  The women credited for bringing back the infamous sunglasses are Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton.  Since then, Jackie-O’s have been seen on the faces of famous women and trendy-but-average Janes everywhere.

Another retro design of sunglasses that has made big waves recently is the cleverly named Aviators.  Originally designed in the 1930′s for military pilots, Aviators were hot on fashionable faces in the 1960′s and 1980′s.  True to their every-twenty-year trend, Aviators are back with avengance and have been favorites for men, and women, with style.  It is particularly true that this style of sunglasses has caught on with the younger “MTV Crowd” more than with adults.  Johnny Knoxville has adapted Aviators as his signature style.

Some styles of sunglasses have briefly shown themselves in fashion, only to never be heard from again.  This is not necessarily a bad thing.  There are those sunglasses the human race still feels a little silly about.  However, let’s not speak too soon.  These sunglasses could be waiting in the wings for their triumphant return. Retro Oversized Square Sunglasses

OVER-oversized sunglasses are one fashion faux-pa most of us would rather not make.  The design is a retro tribute to the late Lady O when they are slightly oversized and conservative.  However, when the sunglasses appear to be attempting to take over your face, you may have crossed the line into ridiculous.  Save the supersized look for clowns and put this design back in the vault.
Ray-Ban RB2140P Original Wayfarer Sunglasses

Another design that some hope will never return carries a soft spot in the hearts of many women.  The Wayfarer sunglasses were first made popular by Hollywood’s bad boy, James Dean.  After his death, these sunglasses were worn for a time, before slowly falling by the wayside to make room for the newer styles.

However, the Wayfarer was gone but not forgotten.  The sunglasses made a double comeback on the faces of James Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, better known in the eighties as the Blues Brothers.  The sunglasses with a clean black, square design were a perfect complement to their all black suits, hats and ties.

Wayfarer sunglasses made one more comeback in 1983 when a sock and underwear clad young man slid into the living room and into our hearts.  Before Tom Cruise was the controversial figure he is today, he was a hot high school graduate just trying to get into a good college.  The Wayfarers sunglasses haven’t been much on the fashion scene since then, but we’ve never forgotten.

It’s hard to tell what may come next in the world of fashion sunglasses.  If you really want to keep up with it, just check the fashion magazines in early spring and see what new old styles are unfolding.  You may have seen them all before, but these retro sunglasses are bound to have a new and exciting twist.
